Zuni Theodore Edaakie Bolo Ted Edaakie, Signed Blue Gem Turquoise Rare 1957-64

WHAT IS GREAT ABOUT IT: This is a wonderful early signed bolo by the very famous Ted Edaakie, who was active from the 1930's through the 1960s. His work is in the C.G.Wallace catalog, the Museum of The American Indian Smithsonian Institution, The Museum of New Mexico and The Heard Museum in Arizona. Edaakie has won several awards for his work. The C.G. Wallace catalog also reports the sale of two of his roadrunner pins. In the 1930's and 1940's Theodore Edaakie was employed as an artist at C. G. Wallace's Trading Post at Zuni.  Mosaic inlay pieces that Theodore made were collected by Wallace and several were sold at the 1975 Sotheby's Auction of Wallace's collection. His owl as well as his roadrunner were among the pieces included in the Sotheby's sale. He was a superb lapidarist as well as silversmith and the stone on this bolo is superb. I'm always impressed by his use of color which I find to be brilliant and arresting. He had a great talent for color. The silver work is also special. In this case he applied a sinuous draped leaf which seems to be pouring out of the stone, and the rest of the silver is also great: applied stamped raindrops and twisted wire to frame the simple plain bezel he used to secure the large wonderful natural turquoise stone which is also framed by raised wire. The leather on the tie is in good condition though it was dry when I got it. I've conditioned the leather tie, so even though it's original to the piece and very old, It's useable. The old tips are also original, and very nice ones.
CONDITION: excellent vintage wearable and collectible.

SUMMARY: This is an exquisite large bolo with a huge piece of natural Blue Gem turquoise which is the star of the piece but it's framed with excellent silver work which includes a sinuous leaf which wraps itself around the curves of the stone, five large applied hand made drops, a which wire elevated frame over the rest, and directly framing the plain bezel is a twisted wire frame all around it, covered in part by the wonderful leaf. This is a very fine bolo, worthy of Theodore Edaakie's name, and a highly
collectible, gorgeous piece to wear and enjoy. It is a treasure. And it is signed by the artist, which isn't always the case with the old masterpieces like this.

Returns will be accepted for 30 days after your receipt for any reason and without question. Please let me know if you would like to return something.
