Description
Vintage AO Spencer Monocular Microscopewith 3 Objectives
#194817
Adjustable X-Y Slide Mount w/ spring slide retainer
Made around the summer of 1943, Spencer's production output basically doubled around this time.
This microscope seems complete, except for the mirror, and is in very good working original condition.
I haven't cleaned any parts although the lenses appear to be not damaged.
Proper and careful cleaning and lubrication are recommended while deciding on a mirror, light or condenser for illumination.
Defects:
The missing mirror size is likely 1.5".
The missing mirror bracket is 1 5/8" pin to pin.
Features:
2 grooved knurled Main adjustment knobs (1.5")
2 grooved, knurled FIne adjustment knobs (7/16")
2 knurled knob X-Y axis (L-R, Front-Back) fine adjustment slide mount with spring slide retainer.
Knurled mirror/illumination adjustment knob to concentrate light on a slide.
Eyepiece is 10X

Notes for further reading:
The first Spencer microscopes were sold in 1838.
The Spencer Lens Co. was founded in 1895 in Buffalo, NY.
In 1935 American Optical purchased the Spencer Lens Company and in 1945 the name was changed to American Optical Scientific Division, hence the designation found on many microscopes as “AO Spencer” with a new logo.
Spencer microscopes are sturdy and made of iron, steel, brass, bronze, chrome and sometimes aluminum and bakelite.
Spencer manufactured high quality microscopes and is considered the first American microscope manufacturer.
The 95X is an oil immersion objective, is not spring loaded and “HOM.” meant “homogenous immersion.”
The turret click stops for rotation label the objectives: 1.8mm-4mm-16mm
