    Description

    Welcome!
It is rare to find a larger scale early Navajo pin with Petrified wood, but here is such an example. This piece has a lovely piece of landscape Arizona petrified wood in an octagonal shape. It is set in a finely serrated bezel and flanked on two sides with very unusual fan-shaped stamped feather stamps. It is 2-1/4" long and 1-1/8" wide and weighs 15.4grams. It has a working safety clasp.
While the condition can be considered excellent vintage, wearable and collectible there are hairlines visible on magnification, primarily under the surface but one can be felt with the fingernail. These were there when I purchased this pin from Karen Sires on July 15, 2009. It went from her personal collection to mine, and I'm offering it now for the first time. It was her impression that it was a very early Navajo piece and rare in several respects. The stone is a rare octagonal shape, and the stamp work is exceptionally fine and unusual. It was her opinion it was Navajo and quite early and I would agree; I've revisited the attribution several times but never found any reason to change the attribution. I think it's a very rare very early Navajo piece. I have never seen one like it and I've watched closely. I have worn it often and it was a great favorite of mine.
The fine and refined workmanship and color play is exceptional. I love to wear it and I think you will, too. The quality is suitable for museums and the best collections. The silver work is wonderful and a perfectmatch for the beautiful stone.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target.
