    Description

    Up for sale is this incredible antique Chinese bronze piece. The wick knobs are marked for A A Vantine & Company 877 Broadway New York. Vantine was an early importer of Asian antiques. I have to admit I have a very limited knowledge of Chinese antiquities. From my research it seems likely that this was not originally an oil lamp, more likely a censor or incense burner and was made into an Oil Lamp upon arrival in the United States. There are several pin size holes near the top on one side, and the finish shows wear, oxidation and soiling. I have not even wiped it off, I’m selling it just as I found it. It’s a large piece, similar in size to a banquet lamp. Measures about 19” tall with the font and burner removed, 23” tall in total, base diameter about 7 1/8”. It has a wonderful 3 dimensional design with birds resting and flying around a tree branch and legs that look like bamboo. Please view all 12 photos to help judge condition.
