    Rare and very attractive, 1930 Civil War Veteran's Grand Army of the Republic National Encampment Badge for a "Representative" to the 64th National Encampment of the GAR held at Cincinnati, Ohio. This beautiful Badge was worn by a Delegate to the National Emcampment at a time when the number of Civil War Veterans was rapidly declining.
    This very impressive and very well preserved, 1930 GAR National Encampment Badge measures approx. 6" long overall and 1 3/4" across at the shaped bar pin. It is made of two bronzed and one silver surface elements. There is a bronzed, shape cast bar pin featuring a spread wing eagle perched atop crossed cannons along with text that reads "Representative". A five pointed star shaped Medal hangs from the bar pin on brass links. That star shaped Medal features a bust portrait of Ulysses S. Grant along with a view of his birthplace at Point Pleasant, Ohio. Text on that element reads “Cincinnati, Ohio”, “Ulysses S. Grant” and “Birthplace at Point Pleasant, O.”.
    The third element is a circular Medal ith a portrait of the GAR Commander – Edwin J. Foster – on the front and text on the reverse that reads “64th National Encampment of the Grand Army of the Republic / Aug. 24-29, 1930 / Cincinnati, Ohio”. The Badge is backed by its original, yellow silk ribbon The back of the central element of the Badge carries the mark of the manufacturer - Whitehead & Hoag of Newark, New Jersey.
    By 1930 the national membership in the GAR had fallen from a high of over 409,000 in 1890 to just over 21,000.
    This rare and very attractive, 1930 GAR National Encampment Delegate Badge is in excellent condition. The Badge retains 100% of its original bronzed and silvered finish and there is nor wear or damage of any kind to even the highest spots. The yellow silk ribbon is also well preserved with no damage, stains or fading. Overall this wonderful GAR Badge is exceptionally well preserved and displays beautifully
